"The System" Slotted Track Assembly Instructions

(Installation video): Slotted Track Installation Video

Step 1: Bottom (floor) Track - align and Shot Pin in place.

Step 2: Slotted Slip (ceiling) Track - align and connect using Tapcon Concrete Screws or Shot Pins.

Step 3: Cut and Insert Studs - Cut Studs æ" short (for top clearance at assembly). Twist stud into place (16", 24" OC as required).

Step 4: Attach Studs to Lower and Upper Tracks - Attach to bottom track with #8 or #10 screw ý" long - wafer head steel screws without standoff washer. Attach upper Stud section with #8 or #10 screw ý" long - wafer head steel screws without standoff washer aligned in center of slot. (note: Stand off Washer is not needed in construction, see PE revised notes).

Step 5A: Two (2) Hour Rated UL System number HW-D-0027 - Two (2) layers 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard (inner layer and outer layer).

Cut inner layer of 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard to leave 1 ý" clearance from the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. Attach to steel studs with 1" long Type S steel screws. Screwed off to USG standards.

Cut outer layer of 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard to leave æ" clearance from the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. Attach to steel studs with 1 5/8" long Type S steel screws. Screwed off to USG standards.

The inner and outer layers form the chair shaped space for fire resistant joint material to be inserted.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Uppermost screws securing inner and outer layers of gypsum board to the studs are to be located 3 to 4" below the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. No board attachment screws are to penetrate the slotted ceiling track. Joints of outer layer to be offset from inner layer joints.

Step 5B: One (1) Hour Rated UL System number HW-D-0028 - One (1) layer 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard. In addition, cut a minimum 12" wide strip. (This strip is only used to create the "chair" shaped space for fire resistant joint material to be inserted)

Cut inner layer 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard to leave 1 ý" clearance from the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. Attach to steel studs with 1" long Type S steel screws. Screwed off to USG standards.

Rip minimum 12" wide strip from 5/8" standard Gypsum wallboard. Install to leave æ" clearance from the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. Install gypsum strip over the full sheet of gypsum board. Secure to steel studs with 1-5/8" long Type S steel screws. Strip of gypsum board also secured to full sheets of gypsum board midway between studs with 1-5/8" long type G steel laminating screws spaced maximum 6" OC, vertically.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Uppermost screws securing inner layer of gypsum board to the studs are to be located 3" to 4" below the valleys of the steel deck at the ceiling. No board attachment screws are to penetrate the slotted ceiling track. Joints of gypsum board strip to be offset from joints of full sheets of gypsum board.

Step 6: Joint Insulation - Cut mineral wool batt insulation (minimum 3 pcf density) into 2" wide by 2" thick insulation strips. Compress in thickness and insert in the æ " deep recess between the slotted ceiling track and the outer strip of gypsum board above the top edge of the full sheets of gypsum board. The insulation strips are to be pressed down until flush with the top edge of the gypsum board strip. Cut mineral wool batt insulation (minimum 3 pcf density) into 2" wide by 2" thick insulation strips. Compress in thickness and insert in the æ" linear gap between the gypsum board strip and the valleys of the steel floor units or the flute insulation. The joint insulation is to be packed into the linear gap until it is flush with the wall surfaces.

Step 7: Flute Insulation - Cut mineral wool batt insulation (minimum 3 pcf density) 25% bigger than flutes. Compress and insert into the flutes of the steel floor units above the top of the slotted ceiling track. The excess length of the mineral wool batt insulation is to project approximately 2" beyond each side of the slotted ceiling track.
